My fitbit seems to think I get little to no REM or Deep Sleep. Is this happening to anyone else? Fitbit has recently introduced new sleep features. ‘Sleep Stages’ uses accelerometer and heart rate data to more accurately estimate how long you spend in Light, Deep, and REM sleep stages
- In a 2017 study using data from over 6 million Fitbit trackers, researchers found that while sleeping longer can lead to getting more deep and REM sleep, sleeping seven to eight hours gives you the highest combined percentage of time in these stages. - FItbit gives good insight into how much deep sleep or REM we get but most of us have found that its assessment of Awake v. Light sleep is often inaccurate. Light sleep is often inaccurate. Technology will not be taking over from the human brain just yet!
- For instance, the early part of the night (11pm - 2 am) majority of the sleep cycles are comprised of of deep sleep, later on in the night (3am - 6am) you tend to have more REM sleep. Missing this first part of the night to late night partying, tv watching or work means you're not going to get as big of an opportunity to get into deep sleep.
